Omega announced officially that they will resume the production of the famous calibre 321, which caused a great blockbuster in watchmaking industry. Referring to Cal.321, maybe some watch lovers are unfamiliar. However, if the record of it has been introduced, I think many people will know.
In 1962, Ed White firstly entered the space, what he wore was the Cal.321. In 1969, when Armstrong successfully landed on the moon, the movement of the accurate fake Omega Speedmaster wristwatch he wore was exactly the Cal.321 too. Meanwhile, the chronograph movement that Patek Philippe, Breguet and Vacheron Constantin ever used were based on this Cal.321. It is no exaggeration to say that Cal.321 is one of the most important chronograph movements in the history of watchmaking.
Omega assembled a team of researchers , developers and historians, as well as the best craftsmen and experienced watchmakers, who worked in secret for two years for reviving the production. The original cal.321 was remapped using digital scanning timings and produced using modern equipment rather than old stock molds. It is the 50th anniversary of the successful moon landing of Armstrong, so we guess that the movement will be used on the significant copy Omega watches to commemorate the legendary original models.
